REGGAETON

Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, and popping. At Kokoloco we bring to you the music found in the streets of Central America, Reggaeton and Dancehall.

Reggaeton music originated in Panama in the 1980s. By the 1990s it had spread to Puerto Rico, where the youth now claim Reggaeton as a musical genre of their own. Reggaeton music has a mixture of Jamaican and Latin American influences, blended with Hip Hop and Electronica beats.

Dancehall is a genre of Jamaican popular music that originated in the late 1970s. Initially dancehall was a more sparse version of reggae than the roots style, which had dominated much of the 1970s.

Heels

Heels is a great dance style that is the perfect combination of dance and drama, designed to entertain the audience with both sassiness and sexiness.

Heels can be quite theatrical, often using props like chairs, fans, extravagant costumes that are playfully used throughout the performance. At Kokoloco you will learn the the classic bump and grind, shimmy, shaking and swirling and channel your inner drama queen all in a fun, positive and support environment.

latin shines

Shines refer to solo steps often performed with the popular latin dance styles: Salsa and Bachata. Both styles when dancing shines, emphasise use of the arms, body and feet, creating a sexy and sleek movement to different accents in the music. It's a fun way to learn to dance without the need for a partner and if you like to 'shine' on your own when going out social dancing.

latin dance for kids

It's not just the adults who get to have fun with latin dancing, we have some great opportunities for kids to dance as well no the whole family can dance together!

We find kids really love the classes, we offer Brazilian Samba for girls and Zumba fitness for both girls and boys. They are great for building coordination, strength, fitness, confidence and making friends! Most importantly it introduces them to a different music culture other than mainstream media. We give them lots of positive encouragement and performance opportunities in an non-competitive environment. This is aimed for children between the ages of 5 to 12 years old.
